Understanding Sodium Metasilicate Anhydrous and its industrial value
Sodium Metasilicate Anhydrous is a white, free-flowing granular or powder inorganic compound with the molecular formula Na2SiO3 and a molecular weight of 122.06. It has a bulk density of 1.00–1.35 g/cm³ and a melting point of 1089°C.
With a combined content of total alkali and silica (SiO2) exceeding 95%, it delivers significantly greater calcium and magnesium ion sequestration capacity than hydrated sodium metasilicate. It is non-toxic, odorless, and environmentally friendly.
Unlike hydrated forms, the anhydrous grade does not release water of crystallization, providing excellent compatibility with organic chlorine compounds, peroxides, bleaching agents, and bleach activators in detergent formulations. It serves as an effective replacement for Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) in synthetic detergents.
